Everything we want to accomplish in life begins with discovering our own “why.” It’s our burning reason and purpose for what we do. All the great leaders in history began with knowing why, and it’s the answer to that question that will lead us to greatness as well. On this episode, Dave Kirby his conversation with Simon Sinek shared from his book, “Start with Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone to Take Action.”

Episode 316: Discover Your Why

1 Simple Thing Action:
Ask those closest to you, “Why are we friends?” Then ask them, “What is it about me that makes us such close friends? What is it about me that would make you sacrifice and do anything to take care of me?” The thing you give to the world is the thing your friends value in you. They will say something about themselves that gives you an emotional reaction, and that’s when you know you’ve tapped your why.

Episode 317: Ask Questions

1 Simple Thing Action:
For the next 48 hours do not tell a single lie. The opportunity to tell the truth reveals more and allows others to help us more than we realize.

Episode 318: Admit What You Don’t Know

1 Simple Thing Action:
If you work hard for something you don’t believe in, that feeling is called stress. If you work hard for something you do believe in, that feeling is called passion. It has nothing to do with how many hours we work, it has to do with how connected we are with the work, and that connection is called your “why.”

Episode 319: Ask For Help

1 Simple Thing Action:
Decide you want to know your why. It’s not something you can do because someone says you have to, or because it’s some vague “good idea.” The first step in learning your why is the desire to learn it, whether is out of insatiable curiosity or the desperation to put your life back on track.
