Dr. James Marcum Episode 161: Drink To Your Health

1 Simple Thing Action:
Drink Water. Look at your urine, if your urine is coming out dark, chances are you are not drinking enough water. Start measuring the amount of your water. Take your weight, let’s say it’s 200 pounds, divide it by 2, that’s 100, that’s about how many ounces of water you need in a day. 100 ounces is 5 of the 20 oz. bottled water or it’s about 5 big glasses of water per day. That’s what you should shoot for if you are not very active. If you are more active, you exercise, go running, or doing other physical activities, you will even need more water than that. And if you’re not a water drinker you have to treat water like medicine. When you get up in the morning drink a glass of water before you brush your teeth, drink a glass of water after you brush your teeth, and drink a glass of water with each meal, this is a great way to start getting into the practice of drinking 5 large glasses of water a day. And look at the color of your urine if you are going to the bathroom more and it’s coming out light chances are you are well hydrated. If it’s still coming out dark after than you might even need more water.

1 Simple Thing Action:
Rest. Stop 1-2 hours earlier from work instead of going until 7-8pm or even till midnight. Also take 1 day a week off and break your routine. To rest well at night try to go to bed an hour earlier, turn of the media an hour earlier and do some things that relax your body like healthy music, some deep breathing. Try not to eat that big meal at night.

1 Simple Thing Action:
Move. Stand up, take a couple of deep breaths, and move every little joint in the body. Move it up and down, sort of gyrate yourself, and bend yourself at the waist and knees. Move your legs and your feet move everything just for a few seconds, and then sit back down.

Laugh. Even just the act of pretending to laugh has chemical benefits to the body. Just by laughing more you can take pain away, lower the chance of having stress, and actually improve how the brain thinks.
